9876543216987Talk about your out-of-nowhere announcements. Bryan Singer announced today on twitter that a new X-Men movie will be coming to theaters May 27, 2016. It’s subtitle? Apocalypse. That’s right, X-Men: Apocalypse, the infamous X-Men villain will finally be coming to the big screen and it has a very interesting title:

We have confirmed this news from the studio and has learned that the feature will be released on May 27, 2016 – almost exactly two years after Days of Future Past. Considering the source it wouldn’t be too surprising to learn that Singer will be directing the film himself, but it’s worth noting that he did serve as just an executive producer on Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class.

For those of you who don’t know, Apocalypse is an ancient mutant that has a darwinist survival of the fittest point of view. He reigns in an alternate reality where he enacts his mutant tyranny with an iron fist.

This makes sense seeing as the classic Age of Apocalypse storyline stemmed from time travel and alternate realities which seems to be the major proponent in Days of Future Past.

Days of Future Past isn’t even out yet, AND I am NOT looking forward to both films. I really DON’T think they’ll rectify the past mistakes in the X-Men “cinematic” franchise.

We will give you more information as this story develops.

What do you think of this news? Are you excited that the Age of Apocalypse storyline might be getting played out on the big screen? Tell us what you’re thinking in the comments and check out the trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past below.
