… So is TRANSFORMERS 4 – a reboot or not?

54454According to an official press release at Bay’s official website, MichaelBay.com, the director has signed-on for a two picture deal with Paramount that will bring both his passion project, Pain & Gain, as well as the fourth Transformers film to the big screen. Whether or not Bay will shoot number four back to back with the inevitable Transformers 5 is, apparently, still up in the air (or at least unconfirmed) – and is NOT, at this time, part of the two picture deal. Anyways here is what Bay had to say to

The Hollywood News :

Michael BayIt’s definitely not a reboot. It’s an interesting question about what you should call it. On a certain level it’s a continuation of the previous stories, in the fact that it acknowledges what has transform before it. In the new storyarc we acknowledge in what happens in the last movie, as of the destruction of Chicago, it’s actually something that carries through the sort of emotional repercussions of that, not unlike 9/11 has emotional repercussions in the real world. In a fantasy world there are repercussions to what occurred, and all of that plays into TF4.

So with this we move forward with a totally different human cast, who doesn’t know anything about the other humans, It was a big decision to do that. And once again this is not a reboot, but a continuation kind of thing, we feel that this will be very exciting for new fans to transform with.”

654616464646464So, basically – here are the four biggest points Bonaventura addresses:

  • Transformers 4 will release in 2014 as reported.
  • The next film will introduce an all-new storyline but continue the existing continuity.
  • and yes Michael Bay will continue his onslaught of large explosion and the dumbing down of characters and add more stupid shit to Optimus Prime. ((..yes. We added that last point ^__^))

So it seems, Transformers: Age of Extinction could be seen as more of a side-quel than anything else. I’m sure if Transformers 4 proves to be a huge hit, we’ll see the story continue with these characters and settings. Do you actually want to see the franchise go much further, or is your Energon consumption completely depleted for Bay’s version of this classic franchise ?

Would you want more Transformers after Age of Extinction?
