Corner Gas Creator Brent Butt has NO CLUE in “No Clue”

NoClueDVD_2Brent Butt’s first feature-length film as an advertising salesman turned Private Detective is not your typical Brent Butt style of comedy we’re used to seeing. And that’s a good thing! Instead, we get a serious tone throughout the movie with some humorous moments throughout. Watching it kinda reminded me of the James Bond 007 movies. Brent wrote, starred, and co-produced this movie that was directed by Carl Bessai who has directed several films, including “Normal” in 2007, and “Sisters & Brothers” in 2011.

No Clue is about Kyra, portrayed by Amy Smart, looking for her brother, who went missing and is presumed dead. She is looking for the Private Detective’s office but walks into Leo (Brent Butt)’s office by mistake. Does Leo tell Kyra he really isn’t a Private Eye? Of course not. That wouldn’t be much of a movie, now would it? Co-starring in this as Leo’s dimwitted friend Ernie is the always comical David Koechner, known for the Anchorman movies.

The writing is strong, and all three main cast members have good on-screen chemistry together. Other characters in this movie include Dustin Milligan as Danny, who is always giving Leo ‘clues’ (see what I did there), and Kirsten Prout as Reese, as the suspected stalker of Kyra’s brother.

With a strong cast and excellent writing, you can expect this movie to be well worth your time. My favourite line, from Leo, is when he wonders how so many people can obtain handguns. “This is Canada” was the line.

Brent’s wife, Nancy, who is known for her role as Wanda Dollard on Corner Gas, makes a cameo in this movie as a representative of a matchmaking company. A company that creates matches. Her brief appearance was good but I kinda wish there was more from her than just one scene, but that doesn’t play a factor in the overall quality of this movie.

I highly recommend all fans of Corner Gas go watch this movie, either on DVD, or on your favourite online streaming service. I look forward to a possible sequel and the upcoming Corner Gas movie in December, which has raised over $280k on Kickstarter.

4/5 Stars!
